Shit of the Week: Redux 1

I decided to take the wonderful “Shit of the Week” post from Aiden, and have a little bit of fun. I spent a few million (ok, near 16) and fit the Swiss-Army Hurricane with the fitting details. Trying my best to alter nothing and to keep it as true to the original fitting as possible. Here is what I went with:

[Hurricane, Jack of All Trades]

Damage Control I
Beta Hull Mod Nanofiber Structure
Warp Core Stabilizer I
Small Automated Carapace Restoration
-empty-

Explosive Deflection Amplifier I
Limited Kinetic Deflection Field I
10mn Afterburner I
Republic Fleet Medium Shield Extender

200mm Vulcan AutoCannon I, Arch Angel EMP M
Civilian Gatling AutoCannon, Phased Plasma S
Experimental SV-2000 Rapid Light Missile Launcher, Mjolnir Light Missile
Medium Remote Armor Repair System I
‘Limos’ Rocket Launcher I, no charge
250mm Light Carbine Howitzer I, no charge
Upgraded ‘Malkuth” Heavy Assault Missile Launcher I, no charge
-empty-

Infiltrator I x2

I decided to post my location and a bounty of 10,000,000 ISK on my own head, to see if I could stir up some pew pew against this awesome jack of all trades fit. I undocked from Dodixie and made my way into lowsec, ending up in the Aeschee system. I had to dock for the night, but returned this afternoon; blasting my location out there on the twitters and getting a few RTs, etc…

Shortly, and unrelated to the tweets, I blew up, while at a gate. I had started to just simply do missions, playing it “safe” and waiting it out… hoping someone would scan me down.

I died in a quickly destroyed ball of fire and managed to get my pod out of there. In opening a conversation with the killer, he noted my fitting was… interesting. I told him of the prize, the tweets, and the posts and sent him and the other involved party 10 Million each.

I enjoyed the bit of interesting fun and look forward to Aiden posting another Shit Fit for me to use, destroy, and laugh about.

Now, I’m off to drink a lot more, scam some courier contracts and cause general mayhem.

And later in the night…

Came across a Myrm doing an outpost. Screwed with him a bit, but ultimately simply lost a minimalist fit Rifter to his Myrm’s drones. The Cynabal helped out a bit later, though. Most of the time was spent in station BS and stealing the rest of the site out from under him.

Catalyst and Sec Status

I’ve taken to pausing Gilbert’s skill queue for a little while; I am stuffing into an alt’s queue the skills necessary to make faster kills with a suicide catalyst. If you recall, that character is largely my corporation infiltration character. This is fine. He’s still in this ghost-town of a corp. Which really serves him well, imho, because I’m ruining my sec status so I can find other corporations that would like to help a “new pirate” on his way, etc.

Hoping, all the while, I gather the tears and maybe even a corp warpdec too.

An update on the market fun, and pirate acts

Well, not pirate acts, per se, but just tear gathering. I had been running low on my supply of tears, too. This weekend proved to net me a few tears, but nothing more than a rage-quite from the MR I was chasing and the further realization that low-sec is fucking empty. I think I ventured toward the Tribute area, in my shiney Dramiel, just asking to get blown up. Nothing. Nobody but a few people I would catch by gates, going the other way, etc.

Hell, hardly any rats!

But I did scan a bit back in the Sinq region. I had to head back; I found someone had fulfilled my entire purchase order for an item I make about a million on with each resale. So, I figured I would flip those items and scan. That MR shot at my vigil, while I was doing the usual thing. He was in a Thorax, and a Raven friend was nearby. In a different corporation, however. So the Raven could do nothing but watch.

The MR only shot at me after I decided to target him. He had auto-target on still ( mistake, imho ) and shot at me. He warped off. I warped off and returned with the Dram. Finding him again, I started to burn towards him and noticed he was indeed fit well. So I returned with the Vexor before I made a stupid move and went into a gun fight with a knife. I still need some work on the fitting for the Dram. Anyway – I returned. Opened convo with him, and he logs off.

14 minutes later, he returns.

Sees me and the Raven friend still in his mission.

Then logs off again. Not to return for the hour or so I remained on.

Sigh. So close.

On the market updates – Sinking the stored PLEX into the market via a nice sale really helped. I could buy back that PLEX now and have a couple hundred million more, but I keep sinking it back in and am finding a few more regions where the locals seem to really enjoy some items. Either selling them to me because they don’t feel like moving them to other regions, or buying them because they need them. As always, if you have any regions you’d like to see me selling at, feel free to send me a note.

I was recognized, too, back in the Sinq region. Someone I had given some ninja-advice to a while back, apparently. I didn’t remember them. But they were kind and thankful. Though stating they were back to mission running. Which is fine, that’s their thing. I do it sometimes, too. Usually when I have Minecraft open in another window. ;)

A fantastic read for anyone spending ISK…

And that, really, is *all* of us. This link here: at EVE Altruist’s site is a beautiful article. That’s really all I can say about it because I could ramble on about how I agree with every paragraph or have tried (or are currently trying) most of them, too.

I would like to add, and he mentions not knowing much about Planetary Interaction, that it is indeed a “so-so” form of passive income. I tend to set it and forget it; coming back to my two planets when I remember to, like tonight. I’ve had more planets at any given time, but I’ve settled on two low-sec planets. It isn’t something I will do AFK because SN is usually at war. However, when we’re not, I’ll AFK to the system before the low-sec jump, then scoot in and grab my lewtz on the way to market.

If you can find a good system with popular planets, you may also be able to get into contract scamming, with labels such as “goods for WH/market” and hope someone is expecting you to have undervalued the cargo they can’t carry but only sell. (To later find out it is crap.)

That’s a money making model that is still working for me sometimes, too.

Enjoying the markets and my time playing lately

I have to say, I am very much enjoying the bit of money I am making dabbling in the markets. Having Margin Trading has helped, too. Especially if I am online for a while and trading actively, or semi-passively. I have found that if I can sell what I just purchased before I purchase the rest of my buy order, then, naturally the rest of the escrow gets covered from the profits. The math is simple.

Headed toward Hek last night, with a load of PVP items, because it would seem I can get almost a 1Mil/item more there than in Dodixie. Groovy. We’ll see how it goes, there seem to be less penny-sniping people there.

EVE Trader on iPhone has been a fantastic buy and I recommend it to anyone looking for some market updates while on the move. Splashtop Desktop for the PC and the iPad are also awesome, in terms of “lets be a nerd and look at my orders or change them from the toilet or my bed.” Not that I play EVE while shitting, I just like being a proof-of-concept nerd I suppose.

This weekend, I am looking for some pvp action, though. Going to get the scan-ship out, pop around a few systems, and fly until I get shot. Going to buy a few rifters, fit them up nice, and keep going until they are all gone.

I realized it’s not that bad…

Today’s loss of ship and the resulting loss of pod. Most of my ships are either stolen or otherwise grabbed. The amount wasn’t too bad, but I did have a bit of a “oh poop. that’ll take some market work to repair,” feeling come across me.

Either way, those Negative Ten guys had a very efficient gate camp. I’ll take less shortcuts around the Hek area from now on. Or bring friends.
